I've been feeling like a bad and unsupportive friend lately, so even though I have to get up at stupid o'clock tomorrow to help some friends with some stuff, I could't NOT go out to see my friends in Mireille Dark play literally 15 minutes from me. Glad I went! Was pleasantly surprised by a trio called NOdarling who were on when I got there. I swear this club looks familiar and I'm pretty sure it used to be Horns and Hooves Cabaret, where I went once last summer. The draft beer cost 3.30 which is like twice what I'm used to paying, but this is a very popular part of town called Prenzlauerberg ("Prenzl-burg" to the locals) and I can imagine their rent must be going through the roof lately.
Mireille Dark (containing sometime project-mates of mine Joe Dochtermann and Adrian Bang) had some "technical problems" and had to start the show late, and I could only stay for a couple songs, but I think this band has potential. They're going to have an uphill battle being an instrumental trio (no vocals at all), as it can be hard to grab people's attention with no front person. But they already have cool visuals and sparkly jackets and millions of effects, so they're well on the way to stardom I'm sure! Unfortunately I lost my trusty old Canon Powershot 160 last week on the bus, so you'll have to settle for this artist's rendition of Alex Kozmidi loading into the club earlier today. Good night, Berlin!

Yesterday was a very rewarding day. With the help of a well oiled organisation thanks to the ever smooth Säsh Dustown, we as Mireille Dark - a young flickering triumvirate selling his strange brew of "Kräuter Psychedelic Exotica" - had the chance to play Toast Hawaii, one of the most beautiful - litterally - underground place in the city of Berlin®. The stage was warmed up by the über talentuous NOdarling who's blend of somber pop music appeared to be particularly fitting - thanks to the ever curious ears of my partner in crime, Herr Joe Dochtermann. Technical difficulties, I've read the wording on some viciously hilarious writing from the ever cheeky low-end-lefty-family-member-bassist-at-large Greta Brinkman - Our 6 string wizard Alex Kozmidi had indeed to fight with his USS-Entreprise-sized fx rack, A.K.A. "Boardzilla®". I heard about one faulty cable - ONE. Made me think of that rubber joint that tore down Challenger® Shuttle back then in '86 guaranteeing it's crew instant vaporisation into history books and making Jean-Michel Jarre® the then saddest french boy ever. So yes, it IS rocket science. But for once, MAN won over machine and we ended that night with a blistering set, thru last minute on stage scrabble session with the swiss-designed set list : "which kid are you taking out to the movies tonite, which one gonna stay home watching DeutshlandGreatestTalent® feat. Thomas Anders® & Heidi Klum® as well as any other brand of hair shampoo and male oriented cologne."
This is called THE WORKS.
This evening could not have been the same without full participation of Toast Hawaii dedicated crew and special people by order of apparition : Quique del Bianco, Elisaveta Prokopchuk, James Redsands, Laurita Amore, Kenn Eth Dölman Nicole Marianne, Hari Prasad & his gorgeous crew, Rob Zim, Lou Toscani, Helge Schneider, Roberta Maddalena, Stella Thiele, Rob Monstar, Lesley Suzanne Dean and many other unsung heroes of the night.
Post Coitum : I heard Mireille Dark would play the LastBallroom® at the Bassy Club, sometimes next month. Thanks to Martin Kersten, true warrior of the night, we'll meet you there.
